Here at Sila V Krovi Kennel, we do not place any puppies as pet or companion animals in the average household. We breed dogs specifically for working, which for us means dogs are capable of working as personal protection dogs, property protection dogs, livestock guardians and also achieve titles in AKC performance class as well as conformation.  It is our priority to place puppies in proven working homes with experienced handlers that have previously titled dogs in one of the major protection sports or AKC performance events.  If you are looking for a companion dog that will sleep on the couch all day and go for a leisurely walk in the evening, please look elsewhere.  In every litter there are puppies that do not quite meet the standards we have set for puppies intended for breeding.  These puppies are considered Non Breeding Picks but they are not available as pets.  Non Breeding Pick puppies are available to active homes with experienced handlers that want a guardian dog or do competitive sports such as agility, weight pull, AKC or UKC obedience and rally obedience, lure coursing, dock diving, iron dog events, nosework, barn hunt, bikejouring, or a combination of any of these fun sports!

 

Breeding Pick Puppies -vs- Non Breeding Puppies

 

A working dog is a dog that has a job such as search and rescue, police or military canine or that competes in dog sports. We consider a non breeding pick to be any dog that cannot withstand the stress or does not have the drive, energy, and/or nerve to be a breeding dog.  A non breeding pick puppy is just as stable as a breeding pick puppy but may lack the higher energy and drive we require.  A non breeding pick puppy may have the same higher energy and drive but not be able to handle the high levels of stress that a breeding pick puppy is put through for training in protection or other competition sports.

 

Here at Sila V Krovi, our goal is to produce dogs with the necessary traits and temperament to excel in protection, competition sports, and LGD work (Livestock Guardian Dog). Our personal dogs are titled in AKC performance events, conformation and tested for guard work.  With dogs in co-own working homes doing AKC performance events, conformation, LGD work and guardian work.  The top priority here is to place dogs in proven working homes.  What that means, our top pick puppies go to handlers that have previously titled a dog in a protection sport or other working events.  We breed for higher energy dogs with more drive, solid nerve, and strong temperaments.  These dogs do not make good house pets and require a handler that is experienced with large working bred dogs.  These dogs can easily become a liability in the hands of an inexperienced person.  While the dogs are highly trainable because they are intelligent and easy to motivate, we breed for sound minded aggression that requires experience to properly control and harness their drive and energy into a constructive outlet.  Without firm guidance and experienced handling, these dogs can destroy your home and drive your family crazy. 

 

Not all puppies in a litter have what it takes to be a Breeding dog.  They may lack drive or not be as confident as needed to succeed in our working program.   They will still be stable, intelligent, and have plenty of energy. There isn't anything "wrong" with these non breeding pick puppies and we will not sell or place any puppy with obvious instability.  Our standards are just so high for our keepers, co-owns, and breeding picks, that slight things will cause a puppy to be labeled as available to an active, experienced non breeding home. These puppies are still suitable for competition in any of the other fun sports.
